Clothing

Spring on Anna Maria Island means daytime highs in the mid-to-upper 70s, and evenings that drop to the comfortable low 70s or upper 60s. You’ll want a mix of warm-weather gear and a light layer for nights.

• Swimsuits (2–3) — You’ll be in them a lot. Two is the minimum; three lets you always have a dry one.
• Cover-ups or board shorts — For walking from the beach to grab food or ice cream on Pine Avenue
• Light shorts and t-shirts — Casual daytime wear on the island
• One or two light long-sleeve shirts or a hoodie — March evenings can be breezy; a light layer is enough
• Sundress or casual evening outfit — For dinner at the Sandbar or Beach Bistro
• Comfortable walking shoes — For bike rides and Pine Avenue exploration
• Flip flops / sandals — Your primary footwear for the week

Sun Protection (This Is the Big One)

The Gulf Coast spring sun is stronger than it looks. Clear skies mean direct UV exposure, and the reflection off the sand and water amplifies it. Sunburn can derail a whole day of your vacation — pack accordingly.

Use the Free Trolley

The free Anna Maria Island trolley runs the length of the island from Longboat Key to the City Pier in Anna Maria. It’s air-conditioned, friendly, and completely free. Leave your car parked and use the trolley for island exploration — it stops at beaches, restaurants, and Pine Avenue. Running daily during season, it’s one of the island’s best-kept secrets.

Grocery Shop on Your Way In

There’s a Publix just before you reach the island on Manatee Avenue. Stop there on your way in and stock up on groceries, sunscreen, and any essentials. Prices are slightly higher on the island itself, and having a stocked kitchen from day one makes a big difference (especially for breakfast and lunch — save your dining budget for the great dinners on the island).

Don’t Pack Beach Chairs or Umbrellas

Seriously — we’ve got them. It’s one of the most common things guests pack that they don’t need. Same with bikes. Leave that space in your car for your actual luggage.

Reef-Safe Sunscreen Only, Please

Anna Maria Island’s Gulf waters are a protected ecosystem, home to sea turtles, manatees, dolphins, and diverse marine life. Regular sunscreens containing oxybenzone and octinoxate can harm coral reefs and marine life. Make the switch to reef-safe mineral sunscreen — it works just as well and it’s the right thing to do for the waters we all love.
